Abilify

Abilify ( ay-ri-PIP-ray-zole) is used to treat schizophrenia, which is a mental disorder. It is also used to treat the mania phase of bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness). Abilify should NOT be used to treat behavioral problems in older adult patients who have dementia. Abilify is available only with your healthcare professional's prescription, in the following dosage forms: Oral Oral solution (U.S.) Tablets (U.S.)

Abilify is used to treat schizophrenia. Abilify is in a class of medications called antipsychotics. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain.

Abilify comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day with or without food. To help you remember to take Abilify, take it at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Abilify exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may start you on a low dose of Abilify and increase your dose after at least 2 weeks. Abilify controls schizophrenia but does not cure it. It may take 2 weeks or longer before you feel the full benefit of Abilify. Continue to take Abilify even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Abilify without talking to your doctor.
