Accolate (za-FIR-loo-kast) is used by patients with mild-to-moderate asthma to decrease the symptoms of asthma and the number of acute asthma attacks. However, Accolate should not be used to relieve an asthma attack that has already started. Accolate is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Tablets (U.S.)
Accolate is used to prevent asthma symptoms. It works by blocking the action of substances that cause inflammation, fluid retention, mucous secretion, and constriction in your lungs. Accolate is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Accolate comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken two times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Accolate exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Accolate controls asthma symptoms but does not cure them. Continue to take Accolate even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Accolate without talking to your doctor. Brand names: - Accolate - Zafirlukast |
