Amprenavir (Am-PREN-a-veer ) is a protease inhibitor. It is used in combination with other medicines to treat patients who are infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV is the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Amprenavir may slow down the destruction of the immune system caused by HIV. This may help delay the development of problems usually related to AIDS or HIV disease. However, Amprenavir will not cure or prevent HIV infection, and it will not keep you from spreading the virus to other people. Patients who are taking Amprenavir may continue to have the problems usually related to AIDS or HIV disease. Amprenavir is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms: Oral Capsules (U.S. and Canada) Oral solution (U.S. and Canada)

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Amprenavir exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Amprenavir is not a cure and may not decrease the number of HIV-related illnesses.
