Desyrel

Desyrel (TRAZ-oh-done) belongs to the group of medicines known as antidepressants or ``mood elevators. '' It is used to relieve mental depression and depression that sometimes occurs with anxiety. Desyrel is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Tablets (U.S. and Canada)

Desyrel is used to treat depression. Desyrel is in a class of medications called serotonin modulators. It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.

Desyrel comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken with a meal or light snack two or more times a day. To help you remember to take Desyrel, take it around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Desyrel exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it, take it more often, or take it for a longer time than prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may start you on a low dose of Desyrel and gradually increase your dose, not more than once every 3 to 4 days. Your doctor may decrease your dose once your condition is controlled. Desyrel controls depression, but does not cure it. It may take 2 weeks or longer before you feel the full benefit of Desyrel. Continue to take Desyrel even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Desyrel without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually. Your doctor or pharmacist will give you the manufacturer’s patient information sheet when you begin treatment with Desyrel. Read the information carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
