Didronel ( eh-tih-DROE-nate) is used to treat Paget's disease of bone. It may also be used to treat or prevent a certain type of bone problem that may occur after hip replacement surgery or spinal injury. Didronel is also used to treat hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood) that may occur with some types of cancer. Didronel is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms: Oral Tablets (U.S. and Canada) Parenteral Injection (U.S.)
Didronel is used to treat Paget's disease of bone and to treat and prevent certain types of bone problems that may occur after hip replacement or spinal cord injury. Didronel is in a class of medications called bisphosphonates. It works by preventing bone breakdown and increasing bone density (thickness). Didronel comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once or twice a day on an empty stomach, 2 hours before or after eating (especially milk and other foods high in calcium). To help you remember to take Didronel, take it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Didronel exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Continue to take Didronel even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Didronel without talking to your doctor.
