Focalin

Focalin (deks-meth-il-FEN-i-date ) belongs to the group of medicines called central nervous system (CNS) stimulants. It is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years of age and older. Focalin works in the treatment of ADHD by increasing attention and decreasing restlessness in children and adults who are overactive, cannot concentrate for very long or are easily distracted, and are impulsive. Focalin is used as part of a total treatment program that also includes social, educational, and psychological treatment. Focalin is available only with your doctor's prescription. Prescriptions cannot be refilled. A new written prescription must be obtained from your doctor each time you or your child needs this medicine. Focalin is used to increase the ability to pay attention and decrease impulsiveness and hyperactivity in people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Focalin is in a class of medications called central nervous system (CNS) stimulants. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain.

Focalin comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken twice a day, at least 4 hours apart, with or without food. To help you remember to take Focalin, take it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Focalin and gradually increase your dose, not more than once a week. Before taking Focalin, ask your pharmacist or doctor for a copy of the manufacturer's information for the patient and read it carefully.
