Fortovase

Fortovase ( sa-KWIN-a-veer) is used, usually in combination with other HIV medicines including ritonavir (e. g. , Norvir), in the treatment of the infection caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV is the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Fortovase will not cure or prevent HIV infection or AIDS; however, it helps keep HIV from reproducing and appears to slow down the destruction of the immune system. This may help delay the development of problems usually related to AIDS or HIV disease. Fortovase will not keep you from spreading HIV to other people. People who receive Fortovase may continue to have other problems usually related to AIDS or HIV disease. Fortovase is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms: Oral Capsules (U.S. , Canada) Tablets (U.S.) Soft gelatin capsules (U.S. , Canada)

Fortovase is used in combination with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in patients with or without acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Fortovase is in a class of antiviral medications called protease inhibitors. It works by slowing the spread of HIV in the body. Fortovase does not cure HIV and may not prevent you from developing HIV-related illnesses.Fortovase does not prevent the spread of HIV to other people.

Fortovase comes as a hard gelatin capsule (Invirase), a tablet (Invirase), and a soft gelatin capsule (Fortovase) to take by mouth. The hard gelatin capsule and tablet are usually taken with ritonavir (Norvir) two times a day with a meal or up to 2 hours after a full meal. The soft gelatin capsule is usually taken three times a day with a meal or up to 2 hours after a meal. Take Fortovase at around the same times every day. It may be easier to remember to take Fortovase if you take it with meals. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Fortovase exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Continue to take Fortovase even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Fortovase without talking to your doctor. If you miss doses, take less than the prescribed dose or stop taking Fortovase, your condition may become more difficult to treat.
