Glynase is used to treat type 2 (noninsulin-dependent) diabetes (formerly 'adult-onset'), particularly in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet alone. Glynase lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin and helping the body use insulin efficiently. The pancreas must produce insulin for Glynase to work. Glynase is not used to treat type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes (formerly 'juvenile-onset'). Glynase is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Glynase comes in tablets to take by mouth. It usually is taken once a day with breakfast or twice a day (when a large daily dose is required). Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Glynase exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Continue to take Glynase even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Glynase without talking to your doctor. |
