Luvox (floo-VOX-a-meen ) is used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder. Luvox may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Luvox belongs to a group of medicines known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medicines are thought to work by increasing the activity of a chemical called serotonin in the brain. Luvox is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Tablets (U.S. and Canada)
Luvox is used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (bothersome thoughts that won't go away and the need to perform certain actions over and over). Luvox is in a class of medications called serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Luvox comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken either once daily at bedtime or twice daily, once in the morning and once at bedtime. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Luvox exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Continue to take Luvox even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Luvox without talking to your doctor, especially if you have taken large doses for a long time. Your doctor probably will decrease your dose gradually. This drug must be taken regularly for a few weeks before its full effect is felt. Your doctor or pharmacist will give you the manufacturer’s patient information sheet when you begin treatment with Luvox.
