Minizide

Minizide (PRA-zoe-sin and pol-i-THYE-a-zide ) combination is used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled. Prazosin works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. The polythiazide in Minizide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps to reduce the amount of water in the body by increasing the flow of urine. Both of these actions help to lower blood pressure. Minizide is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Capsules (U.S.)

The combination of Minizide is used to treat high blood pressure. It is a combination of two medicines. Prazosin, an alpha-block antihypertensive, works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily through the body. Polythiazide, a thiazide diuretic ('water pill'), causes the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine. Minizide is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

The combination of Minizide comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken two to three times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Minizide exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. The combination of Minizide controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Continue to take Minizide even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Minizide without talking to your doctor.
