Mycolog-II description. Nystatin and triamcinolone (nye-STAT-in and trye-am-SIN-oh-lone ) combination contains an antifungal and a corticosteroid (kor-ti-co-STER-oid) (cortisone-like medicine). Antifungals are used to treat infections caused by a fungus. They work by killing the fungus or preventing its growth. Mycolog-II will not work for other kinds of infections. Corticosteroids belong to the family of medicines called steroids. They are used to help relieve redness, swelling, itching, and other discomfort of many skin problems. Mycolog-II is used to treat certain fungus infections, such as Candida (Monilia), and to help relieve the discomfort of the infection. Topical corticosteroids may rarely cause some serious side effects. Some of the side effects may be more likely to occur in children. Before using Mycolog-II in children, be sure to talk to your doctor about these problems, as well as the good Mycolog-II may do. Nystatin and triamcinolone combination is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms: Topical Cream (U.S.) Ointment (U.S.)
Why prescribed Mycolog-II. The combination of nystatin and triamcinolone is used to treat fungal skin infections. It relieves itching, inflammation, and pain. Mycolog-II is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. How used Mycolog-II. The combination of nystatin and triamcinolone comes in ointment and cream to be applied to the skin. Mycolog-II usually is applied twice a day for no longer than 2 weeks. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use nystatin and triamcinolone exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Wash the affected area thoroughly. Apply a small amount of cream or ointment and gently and thoroughly massage it into your skin. If you use Mycolog-II on your face, keep it out of your eyes. If you are using Mycolog-II on a child's diaper area, do not place tightly fitting diapers or plastic pants on the child. They can increase the absorption of triamcinolone, which can affect the child's growth. |
