Phenoxybenzamine

Phenoxybenzamine (fen-ox-ee-BEN-za-meen) belongs to the general class of medicines called antihypertensives. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) due to a disease called pheochromocytoma. Phenoxybenzamine blocks the effects of certain chemicals in the body. When these chemicals are present in large amounts, they cause high blood pressure. Phenoxybenzamine may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Phenoxybenzamine is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Capsules (U.S.)

Phenoxybenzamine is used to treat episodes of high blood pressure and sweating related to pheochromocytoma. Phenoxybenzamine is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Phenoxybenzamine comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It usually is taken two or three times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Phenoxybenzamine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Phenoxybenzamine controls symptoms related to pheochromocytoma and controls bladder symptoms but does not cure them. Continue to take Phenoxybenzamine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Phenoxybenzamine without talking to your doctor.
