Sclerosol is sprayed through a tube into the area around the lungs. It is given to people who have breathing problems caused by a buildup of fluid in this area. Sclerosol is used after the fluid has been drained out, to prevent the problem from returning. You may be familiar with Sclerosol used as an ingredient in dusting powders (Sclerosolum powder). The Sclerosol used for preventing fluid buildup in the lungs is a special grade of Sclerosol that has been sterilized (made germ-free). Sclerosol is to be given only by your doctor. It is available in the following dosage form: Intrapleural (into the area around the lungs)-Local Aerosol spray (U.S.)
