Tamiflu

Tamiflu ( Oh–sel–TAM–i–veer) belongs to the family of medicines called antivirals, which are used to treat infections caused by viruses. Tamiflu is used in the treatment of the infection caused by the flu virus (influenza A and influenza B). Tamiflu may reduce flu symptoms (weakness, headache, fever, cough, and sore throat) by 1 day. Tamiflu has also been shown to prevent influenza infection if you have come into close contact with someone who has the flu. If you receive the flu vaccine every year, continue to do so. Tamiflu is available only with your doctor's prescription in the following dosage form: Oral Capsules (U.S. and Canada) Oral suspension (U.S.)

Tamiflu is used to treat some types of influenza (flu) in patients who have had symptoms of the flu for 2 days or less. Tamiflu is in a class of drugs called neuraminidase inhibitors. These drugs work by stopping the growth and spread of the flu virus in your body. Tamiflu helps shorten the time you have flu symptoms such as nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, muscle aches, tiredness, headache, fever, and chills.

Tamiflu comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken twice daily for five days. Tamiflu may be taken with or without food. Tamiflu can cause an upset stomach; you can lessen this side effect by taking Tamiflu with food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor pharmacist to explain any part that you do not understand. Take oseltamamivir exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Continue to take Tamiflu even if you start to feel better. Do not stop taking Tamiflu without talking to your doctor.
