Tapazole

Methimazole and propylthiouracil are used to treat conditions in which the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. These medicines work by making it harder for the body to use iodine to make thyroid hormone. They do not block the effects of thyroid hormone that was made by the body before their use was begun. Methimazole and propylthiouracil are available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage forms: Oral Methimazole Tablets (U.S. and Canada) Propylthiouracil Tablets (U.S. and Canada)

Tapazole is used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition that occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. It is also taken before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy. Tapazole is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Tapazole comes as a tablet and usually is taken three times a day, approximately every 8 hours, with food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
