Trimeprazine, an antihistamine, is used to relieve the itching caused by eczema and various skin rashes, including allergic skin rashes caused by poison ivy. Trimeprazine is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Trimeprazine comes as a tablet, extended-release (long-acting) capsule, and syrup to take by mouth. It usually is taken four times a day or every 12 hours. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Trimeprazine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Do not open extended-release capsules; swallow them whole. |
