Phytonadione (vitamin K) is used to prevent bleeding in patients with low thrombin levels or vitamin K deficiency. Vitamin K1 is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Phytonadione comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken once a day or once every other day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take phytonadione exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. To prevent side effects, phytonadione should be taken with meals. If you are taking an extended-release (long-acting) product, do not chew or crush the tablet. There are some tablets that can be crushed and mixed with food. |
