Zafirlukast

Zafirlukast (za-FIR-loo-kast) is used by patients with mild-to-moderate asthma to decrease the symptoms of asthma and the number of acute asthma attacks. However, Zafirlukast should not be used to relieve an asthma attack that has already started. Zafirlukast is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Tablets (U.S.)

Zafirlukast is used to prevent asthma symptoms. It works by blocking the action of substances that cause inflammation, fluid retention, mucous secretion, and constriction in your lungs. Zafirlukast is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Zafirlukast comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken two times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Zafirlukast exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Zafirlukast controls asthma symptoms but does not cure them. Continue to take Zafirlukast even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Zafirlukast without talking to your doctor.
