Zagam ( spar-FLOX-a-sin) belongs to the class of medicines known as antibiotics. It is used to treat bronchitis and pneumonia caused by bacterial infections. Zagam works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, Zagam will not work for colds, flu, or other virus infections. Zagam is an antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia and chronic bronchitis. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Zagam is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Zagam comes as a tablet to take by mouth. Zagam is usually taken for 10 days, starting with two tablets on the first day, followed by one tablet a day for the remaining 9 days. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Zagam exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. The tablets should be taken with a full glass of water. Continue to take Zagam even if you feel well.
